Sidmouth Raiders 1 (1) Central City 2 (1)
Where there's a Will, there's a way.
City started the match with the bare minimum squad. Without any subs, and Will P carrying a knock, the City players knew they all had to turn in a solid 70 minutes on the pitch.
The first half kicked off and City soon took control, harassing the Sidmouth players and playing some lovely passing football when in possession. A couple of early chances went begging with City just unable to apply the final touch. Against the run of play, Sidmouth took the lead when a free kick evaded everybody and nestled into the Central goal.
City continued to dominate and got a deserved equaliser when Charlie slid the ball through to Tom D to control the ball and place it into the far corner. The final ten minutes of the half continued in the same manner, but City could not make it count and were unlucky to go in at the break at 1-1.
There were no changes to the set-up at half time and the second half kicked off with Central intent on taking all three points. After controlling the first ten minutes the Central midfield started to tire a bit and Sidmouth had more joy in possession, the game was finely balanced and waiting for a piece of magic. Then with 15 minutes remaining the ball landed at Will A's feet and he floated it over the keeper and into the far corner. A cross may be, a winning goal, yes.
City now needed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle and it took a superb save from Noah to give Central all three points.
Well done to all the team today who all played their part in this important win.
