Twyford Match Report

Twyford 1 (0) Central City 0 (0)

On a blustery day in Tiverton, with a very bumpy playing surface, this was never going to be an attractive game of football.

The match kicked off with City having a slight advantage with the cross wind blowing diagonally behind them, but they never really got to grips with the conditions. It wasn't until 30 minutes had passed before they were able to put together their first flowing move, but nobody was able to finish off the low cross into the box.
The half time whistle blew without incident or excitement.

The second half commenced with City playing into the wind and Twyford soon started to edge the match. With very few chances being created it was City who handed Twyford the lead. A free kick into Twyford box was under hit and City were caught with a huge gap between their defence and midfield . A swift break lead to a through ball that bounced up off Noah and Twyford were able to score past the City defenders that were stood on the line. A couple further chances passed for Twyford with City never looking like stealing an equaliser.

Everybody was happy to hear the final whistle as it was a game that won't live long in the memory. The 1-0 result was a fair reflection of the game.

Well done to Zak and Sam for solid performances in defence.

Sidmouth Raiders Match Report

Sidmouth Raiders 1 (1) Central City 2 (1)

Where there's a Will, there's a way.

City started the match with the bare minimum squad. Without any subs, and Will P carrying a knock, the City players knew they all had to turn in a solid 70 minutes on the pitch.

The first half kicked off and City soon took control, harassing the Sidmouth players and playing some lovely passing football when in possession. A couple of early chances went begging with City just unable to apply the final touch. Against the run of play, Sidmouth took the lead when a free kick evaded everybody and nestled into the Central goal.

City continued to dominate and got a deserved equaliser when Charlie slid the ball through to Tom D to control the ball and place it into the far corner. The final ten minutes of the half continued in the same manner, but City could not make it count and were unlucky to go in at the break at 1-1.

There were no changes to the set-up at half time and the second half kicked off with Central intent on taking all three points. After controlling the first ten minutes the Central midfield started to tire a bit and Sidmouth had more joy in possession, the game was finely balanced and waiting for a piece of magic. Then with 15 minutes remaining the ball landed at Will A's feet and he floated it over the keeper and into the far corner. A cross may be, a winning goal, yes.

City now needed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle and it took a superb save from Noah to give Central all three points.

Well done to all the team today who all played their part in this important win.

Alphington Match Report

Central City 1 (0) Alphington 5 (4)

In what was always going to be a tough fixture, City were well beaten by an Alphington side who remain undefeated this season.

The first half was spent mainly in the Central half, but they defended well for the first 15 minutes keeping the game at 0-0. Eventually Alphington broke the deadlock with a firm half-volley leaving Noah little chance. This dented the city spirit and they showed too much respect to the opposition for the remainder of the first period. With a bit more belief and aggression they could have kept the score down, but the game was beyond reach as they trailed at half time by 4 goals to nil.

The half time talk whipped the lads up and the second half was a much more even affair.  The tackles started to count and the opposition could tell that they were in a match. It was also noticeable that the Alphington players started to question the referee, a skill surely picked up from Match of the Day. Shortly after going five down, Sam floated a superb free kick over the defence for Dylan to tuck the ball past the keeper to get City on the scoresheet. A well deserved goal for the team's second half performance.

There were two noticeable performances for City, Sam Plumer at centre half who's place kicks were excellent and Tom Oliver for his contribution at right back.

Testing Testing 1,2,3!!

Boo!!

Hello everyone, blimey it seems like ages ago that I last posted anything on here, so sorry for my enforced absence during January, my work rota was unkind and Wednesday evenings seemed to be the unlucky night for me!

My sincere thanks to John who as ever very ably ran the mid week session and also managed the team for the game at Collumpton.

This has been the weirdest of weird seasons one way and another, seems like such a long time that we have had back to back games but we are now heading into a busy stretch so just wanted to confirm a few dates.

Wednesday 8th Feb - 6-7 training at Isca as per normal

Saturday 11th Feb - home match against Alphington.  We are without Ewan, Cameron and Dyan for this tie so will be a hard match but I am sure we are up for the challenge!

Wednesday 15th Feb - No training as ISCA is closed for half term

Saturday 18th Feb - Away against Sidmouth.  Again no Ewan, Cameron or Josh so another challenge.

Wednesday 22nd Feb - training at Isca 6-7

Saturday 25th Feb - rearranged away fixture against Twyford Spartans.

So lots of football to enjoy in the next few weeks.  As ever any problems please do let me know and look forward to catching up with everyone soon.

Kind regards

Mark
