Gutted!!!!

Hi everyone

Like me I am sure that all players and parents were really disappointed that we were knocked out of the cup this morning.

It was a tough match against a well organised Heavitree team, they took their chances well and deserved their victory.

It felt that we were never at the races today for whatever reason and I guess sometimes just have to accept that we were second best.

I'm gutted because I had really hoped that we could have done well in the Cup this season, alas it is not to be.  However we will will need to pick ourselves up and work together as team to ensure that we try iron out some of the difficulties that perhaps contributed to our performance today.

Lets chat about it a bit more on Wednesday evening after a bit more time to reflect.

With no Steve T this morning there wont be a match report (unless someone else fancies doing one and sending it to me marksloman@hotmail.co.uk)

Also with no volunteers to keep the website up to date I am sorry that this probably won't get done this season.  However I am sure most of you keep touch with our progress through the FA's Full Time website.

On a positive final note, it was great to welcome Lucas to our squad and hope that he will be a strong asset and an addition to our squad.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I will look forward to seeing you on Wednesday at 7.30pm

The season opener!!

The new season began with a home tie against Sidmouth.

With Cameron, Noah and Joey all out with injuries a team reshuffle was required, prior to a ball being kicked in the new campaign. Fortunately Max demonstrated the spirit required for a successful team by putting himself between the posts.
The game kicked off and City took control immediately, the new strike partnership of Josh and Dylan soon justified the selection when Josh got to the bi-line and cut the ball back for Dylan to slam home. 1-0 and well in control. Two further chances fell to Dylan when played through, but a touch of early season rustiness kept the match at 1-0.

Sidmouth rarely ventured into City territory, but midway through the half they went for route one, bypassing the midfield and 2 touches later it was in the bottom corner. Max was unfortunate as he got down well to get his fingers on the ball, but not enough to stop it going in. It was 1-1 with the blink of an eye.

However City kept in control for the remainder of the half and deservedly went in ahead as Dan set up Dylan for his second of the game with a powerful shot from just inside the Sidmouth box.
2-1 at the break to City.

The half time talk once again reminded the team of the need to communicate with each other. We need to hear those City voices.

The second half began well and with a reshuffle of moving Josh into a central midfield position and putting new man Brandon upfront. City remained the team most likely to score and it wasn't long before Brandon floated over a lovely chip onto Dylan's head for his hatrick. 3-1 up and cruising to the first three points of the season.

With each half of the match now extended to 40 minutes, the players started flagging with twenty minutes to go (unlike the Sidmouth linesman who had been flagging all game). This gave Sidmouth a couple of late opportunities to make a match of it, with their best effort hitting the underside of the bar and going out for a throwing.

3-1 it finished and congratulations to all the players, with a special mention to Max for going in goal, Pacey for an excellent debut appearance and Dylan for his hatrick.

Looking good in pre-season!!

Hi everyone

Just a quick note to say that it sounds like this mornings match went really well with some notable performances.  Hope you all enjoyed it, a beautiful morning and a nice friendly team at Feniton.

We have my friend Simon coming along again on Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm.  He was really impressed with the fitness and the attitude of all the players last week which was great to hear.  Certainly it looked like you put 100% in.  We have all 16 members of our squad on Wednesday so be good to get everyone together.

Simon has asked that the boys wear long sleeves and tracksuit bottoms on Wednesday for what was described as a "full military session!!"

We will do some small match play from 7pm to 8pm.

Also the boys have indicated that they would prefer a nominated captain for the season ahead and John and I are happy to support this.  I think the rotating captaincy has been great for a few seasons and has given everyone chance to lead the team, it is often the captain who has the best match!

It seems fitting the that boys and John have a chance to nominate their captain so on Wednesday we will have a secret ballot with each player being able to nominate their preferred choice.

So might be worth giving it a bit of thought lads, who inspires you, who do you want to represent you as the team captain.  The new arm band will be handed out at the end of the session.

It is all shaping up nicely and hope you feel the same

Regards

Mark
