Deflated Dads fall to Dart defeat

The annual Lads vs Dads (and Lassies) match saw the young whipper-snappers run out comprehensive 5-2 winners at the Rio de Darteiro 'Estadio Gazebo' yesterday. In sweltering conditions reminiscent of the Amazon jungle, the Dads were out-fought, outplayed and overrun by opponents who were fitter, sharper and, well, younger.

The Dads starting line-up was notable for the absence of key players, with drama when the late withdrawl of sole overseas player Richeson Sr due to acting commitments were compounded by Bevan Sr heading off to watch Argentina on telly and see if Messi had signed for Man U. With Worth Sr failing a late fitness test (although claims of over-indulgence at the cake stall proving unfounded), it was left to the remaining Dads to take on the task of trying to beat a youthful looking Lads team. Despite not being at full strength, the Dads team still boasted players with considerable Premiership experience. Sadly, this was largely restricted to watching it on telly.

The Lads swarmed everywhere, outnumbered the Dads in midfield and were able to convert their chances when they came along. They built up a strong lead with goals coming from various players as the Dads struggled to keep up with the blistering pace set by the youngsters. With defeat looming, they had little option but to revert to Plan B, namely hoofing it up to the Big Man (Aggett Sr) and play the percentage game. Sadly, this tactic proved equally fruitless as the Dads fell further behind. Eventually, a well worked move featuring some dynamic wing play by Dornan Sr ended up with a penalty being awarded when a Lad was adjudged (somewhat harshly, but that's life son) to have handled the ball. Up stepped Plumer Sr to tuck away the resulting penalty, despite the keeper getting a hand to the ball. Moments later, the deficit was halved when a rasping shot from Ramsey Sr flew in, despite the Lads protestations that the keeper was only 7 and couldn't even reach the ball. Despite a scuffed effort from Lippman Sr on the weaker of his 2weak feet narrowly creeping past the post, the Dads were unable to complete the comeback and when the Lads scored a 5th, the game was well and truly over.

Player-Manager Sloman Sr was quick to praise the Dads but was left to rue some questionable defending and poor finishing from his players. "I'm gutted for the players, the supporters in the gazebo and the fans back home. I thought our preparation was spot on. We brought a team of specialist nutritionists with us and I can't fault the players application. We gave 200% and you can't say we didn't sweat for the shirt. But you can't defend like that against teams at this level. Ultimately, it was a game of Boys against Men (and girls)".

Shortly after the match, the Board of Directors (a mysterious group who call themselves 'The Mums') issued a statement backing the manager and his players. "We are naturally disappointed with the result and going home early and had hoped to be here longer in Rio de Darteiro. However, we have every confidence that results will improve. Having said that, we will expect an improvement on and off the pitch, otherwise we may need to make some drastic changes".

The only positives to take from the game were the performances of the Girls, who played with verve, passion and no little skill. Indeed, the Dads could do worse than look at the Girls performances and learn from it. That, or feign injury next year.

Congratulations to the Lads then. They will surely face stiffer opposition in subsequent games, although perhaps not as stiff as most of the Dads are feeling this morning.

Exciting Team news and Summer Tournements!

Hello everyone,

Hope that you are all well and enjoying the sunshine. For those that are able to come to the social day on Saturday the weather is looking wonderful!

So I bring you some really important news that I know will be met with a mixture of emotions by you all.

As you know Cameron has been training with the Arsenal Development Squad for the last year and this has led to some wonderful opportunities, such as playing at the Emirates Stadium in an international 3v3 tournament a few weeks ago.

He was asked to have trials with the Arsenal regional elite squad which he has done over the last month and we are very proud to say that Cameron has been selected to play for Arsenal in the Junior Premier League.

Cameron, Fran and I have all given it a lot of thought over the last week as this will mean giving up his place in the Central City team. However opportunities like this come few and far between and so Cameron wants to grab it with both hands.

He is really excited about this chance but also has mixed feelings as he has enjoyed being part of the central City squad for the last 4 years, and will miss playing and training with his friends.

I am sure that I speak on behalf of all the players and their families in wishing Cameron all the very best with this opportunity and that we look forward to hearing all about it.

This will also clearly be a big loss for the team, John and I have already spoken about how this will impact on the team, but I am sure that we will come together and fill that central defensive position which Cameron excelled in last season.

Cameron would like to play in the summer tournaments for Central City (more of them in a bit) and of course will be keen to come and cheers the City boys on when he can.

It would be nice to have the chance to thank Cameron for being a great part of the City team at some stage, as we have done with all boys as they move onto pastures new!

Clearly this has also been a complicated decision because of my role as manager of the team, however I have decided that it would only be right to continue in that role for the 2014/15 season and to try and build on the great work that we all did last season.

 Summer Tournaments!
So I have entered Central City into 3 tournaments this summer.

They are all good fun and provide a nice opportunity o all meet up, play some 5 or 6 a-side matches and hopefully progress

It would be great if all members of the squad can play in at least one of the tournaments and as such I will be asking for expressions of interest nearer the time.

 The dates are
Saturday 12th July at Newton St Cyres, Saturday 19th July (possibly Sunday) at Cullumpton and
Saturday 23rd August at CW Dynamos.

Happy to chat more about these on Saturday or just give me a call if you want more information.

 Best wishes
 Mark

Saturday's Social!!

Hi everyone,

The end of season social is looming quickly in the horizon now and I just wanted to send out some details and also to suggest a way of ensuring that we can coordinate the food to make it easy on us all.

So I have now paid and sent a list of all the people coming to the River Dart Country Park and we have a final number of 36 which is great.

Weather depending it should be a great day and I am sure all the boys are looking forward to it.

The park opens at 10am and so we can arrive anytime, I will try and get their at 10am to find a suitable base for us all. I will bring a gazebo and a few chairs and tables etc but if everyone can bring anything that they think would be helpful, especially camping tables that would be ideal.

The main gate will have a list of all the people who are coming so all you should need to do is to give your name and they will let you in.

I am sure that most people will have been to the park either recently or, like me, as a young lad! It’s a great place where all the boys (and parents) can get wet and muddy and run wild in relatively safety.

Their website (www.riverdart.co.uk) has a load of information and also has a map, directions and other interesting stuff!

So to the most important thing…..lunch :-) It seems that with 36 people coming we would be wise to coordinate the food to try and avoid having huge amounts of any one thing so if people are happy I propose that we all bring a few different things, lay it out and then go for it.

The general consensus seems to be a that a cold food buffet would be the simplest and best way of doing lunch.

So I have drawn up a long list of (all my favourite!!!) food and have broken it down depending on your surname. I do hope that’s okay, any problems PLEASE let me know.
